Health Psychology: Consultancy Services
Behaviour change is complex, but it is also knowable. With the right frameworks, the right evidence, and the right approach, organisations can move beyond guesswork and design strategies, interventions, and engagement programmes that make a real difference. That is what I do.
I offer bespoke consultancy across a range of sectors and project types. Whether you need a discrete piece of analysis, an end-to-end research project, a training workshop, or ongoing strategic input, I tailor my work entirely to your needs and context. All projects begin with an initial meeting to discuss your aims, timelines, and what success looks like.
Behavioural Research & Analysis
Understanding behaviour is the essential first step toward changing it. My research services are designed to generate insights that are evidence-based, contextually grounded, and directly actionable.
- Literature Reviews - Comprehensive reviews of published and grey literature to establish what is known, identify evidence gaps, and inform programme or strategy design.
- Qualitative Research - In-depth interviews, focus groups, and co-production sessions to explore lived experience, motivations, barriers, and facilitators across patient, carer, and professional populations.
- Survey Design & Analysis - Development and analysis of quantitative surveys, including large-scale data sets, with outputs tailored for a range of audiences from academic publication to board-level reporting.
- Behavioural Diagnosis - Applying frameworks such as COM-B and the Behaviour Change Wheel to systematically identify what is driving or preventing target behaviours within a given system or population.
- Barrier & Facilitator Analysis - Identifying the specific psychological, social, and structural factors that help or hinder desired change.
- Persona & Segmentation Work - Developing evidence-based profiles of distinct behavioural groups to guide communication, engagement, and intervention design.
Strategy & Stakeholder Engagement
Sustainable change requires more than good evidence — it requires the right people, working together, toward a shared understanding of what needs to happen. I support organisations to develop clear strategies and engage stakeholders meaningfully.
- Behavioural Strategy Development - Translating research and evidence into coherent, implementable strategies aligned with organisational goals.
- Patient Journey Mapping - Mapping the experience of patients or service users across stages of care to identify unmet needs, friction points, and opportunities for support.
- Stakeholder Engagement Planning - Designing tailored approaches to engage patients, clinicians, advocacy groups, commissioners, and policymakers in meaningful and productive ways.
- Patient Group & Advocacy Mapping - Understanding the landscape of patient advocacy and community organisations to build authentic, productive partnerships.
- Policy Translation & Briefing - Translating complex research findings into accessible formats for policy audiences, including government ministers, parliamentary committees, and regulatory bodies.
Workshops & Training
Equipping teams and organisations to think behaviourally is one of the most sustainable investments you can make. I design and deliver bespoke sessions that build genuine understanding and practical capability.
- Introductory & Applied Behaviour Change Workshops - Tailored to your organisation's context and goals, from awareness sessions to in-depth capability building.
- Stakeholder Facilitation - Facilitating structured discussions with patients, clinicians, advocacy groups, or internal teams to generate shared understanding and co-create solutions.
- Advisory Panel Facilitation - Designing and running advisory boards with patients, carers, or healthcare professionals to gather strategic insight and build authentic engagement.
- Research Methods Training - Supporting teams to design, conduct, and analyse behavioural research effectively.
Intervention Design & Delivery
Once the behavioural landscape is understood, the next step is designing approaches that will actually shift it. I support organisations to develop, test, and implement evidence-based interventions across a range of settings.
- Behaviour Change Intervention Development - Drawing on established psychological models to design targeted interventions for patients, carers, or healthcare professionals.
- Digital & Scalable Programme Design - Developing interactive, behaviour-based programmes suited to digital delivery, with accessibility and user experience at their core.
- Communication & Resource Development - Creating behaviourally informed materials, scripts, and resources for patient-facing or professional audiences.
- Implementation Support - Helping organisations navigate the practical realities of putting evidence-based approaches into practice, including addressing system-level barriers.

Examples of Previous Consultancy Projects
The Scottish Breastfeeding Network
A 3-month project consisting of a literature review into infant feeding in emergencies (including the grey literature), and the development of a focus group schedule and survey questions for caregivers. The final output included a comprehensive report summarising the literature and providing recommendations and an implementation plan for resources and materials to support with emergency situations in the UK. I developed a script utilising Behaviour Change Techniques to support emergency responders to initiate feeding in these situations. We created and delivered a presentation to the client and their wider organisation, providing the opportunity for discussion and questions prior to closing the consultancy.
The British Psychological Society
A 6-month research project around experiences of, and views on, supervision within Health Psychology. Involved the design and distribution of a survey, thematic analysis of responses with the final output being a full report and condensed journal article. The final article can be viewed here: https://explore.bps.org.uk/content/bpshpu/33/1/8
