About Me
Hi, nice to meet you!
I’m Dr Catherine White CPsychol (she/her), a Health Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). My expertise lies in understanding health behaviours, and in managing the psychological and emotional aspects of reducing unhelpful behaviours and increasing helpful behaviours.
As a Health Psychologist, I can support you to manage long-term health conditions. This would likely include techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and Compassion-Focused Therapy. We will work together to understand the best approach to meeting your specific goals. I provide one-to-one health coaching where I can support you to make healthy lifestyle changes at any stage of life. It might be that you are looking to make changes to your diet, to incorporate more exercise in your routine, manage stress levels, or improve your sleep. You might also be wanting to cut down on how much alcohol you're drinking or to quit smoking. Whatever your goals, I can support you to make the changes that matter to you.
I have over 300 hours of clinical experience both with young people whilst working within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, and with adults in a private capacity. I also have both research and policy experience within consultancy projects I have delivered and within my role in alcohol advocacy. I take an integrative approach to the work that I do, drawing upon various evidence-based therapeutic approaches and coaching techniques, to help people to improve their sense of health and wellbeing. I am passionate about working alongside individuals to understand their strengths and challenges, and to support them to make positive, sustainable changes in their life.
I am committed to providing people with a safe, non-judgmental space where they can get clear on their goals and values, working together to identify and address barriers to making positive changes. I am based in central Scotland but am able to work with clients from anywhere in the UK, as all sessions are conducted online. More information about the services I offer can be found here. If you’re interested in us working together, you can book a free 20-minute telephone consultation here, where we can discuss your needs and how I can help to support you.

FAQ
When do I pay for sessions?
I will send an invoice to you in advance of our session. Payments are made by BACS (bank transfer) or PayPal at least 24 hours prior to our session.
What is your cancellation policy?
For your first appointment I require 48 hours notice. Thereafter, if we agree to meet on a regular basis I will reserve the same slot for you each week to provide as much continuity as possible. If you are unable to attend a session, the session will be charged at the full rate. However, I will endeavour to offer you an alternative session slot wherever possible.
What if I need out of hours support?
For non-urgent issues you can contact me by email and I will aim to get back to you within 3 working days. If you require urgent help, please contact your GP's out of hours service or NHS crisis team. In the event of an emergency, please dial 999 or 111 or go to your nearest A&E.
What happens at the first appointment?
The first appointment is a chance to think about what has led you to seek therapy at this point and whether it would be helpful to meet again or agree to work together. It is also a chance to ask any questions that you might have about therapy.
